Capturing the paint shots

We arranged a day where we could film outdoors at college so that we would have maximum lighting and space to capture the shots of our male model painting. We felt that the view of the field with the bright sunlight created a calm ambience, symbollic of the calmness he was trying to reach as he painted his lost love. However, the tranquil settings later juxtapose with the anger of the boy as he pushes over the table and destroys his surroundings, leaving only the portrait as the image of perfection surrounded by a flurry of chaos.

The idea of the painting shots were to allow our male protagonist to express how his pain as he pines for his love, who we later discover has died. Therefore, we wanted to create the sense that he put in a lot of care and attention to detail to perfect the painting, so we filmed a lot of close up shots that follow his hand and the brush, as well as close ups of his face to capture his emotions as he paints.
