Music video ideas.

Reminisce This – (My own song)

My ideas for this video basically consist of a visual story which relate to the lyrics of the song, with many cuts to actual musician footage which is a typical format structure to a music video. The song is about a girl who has been admitted to a psychiatric hospital following a break up with her partner. I think I will get an actress to play her part and I will be playing the part of the musician as I am the actual musician of the song. It will be as though the musician is talking about the patient, whilst the musician is actually the patient. I would like this to be revealed at the end of the video subtly.

Intro/Verse

- Introduction resembles a long shot of a girl in a room (mental ward which would include bright lighting and white decor) singing ‘They’d raise a quizzical eyebrow every time I tried to convince them that I wasn’t insane anymore’.

Here is an image of the rest room at college which would be perfect for capturing elements of a mental ward/institution with the plain white walls and the simplicity:

- Then it cuts to the girl brawling with hospital wardens who are dragging her away to the lyrics ‘can you blame me for the constant disputes on the ward?’

- Cut to a shot of Head warden and patient in a ‘meeting’ where Head Warden is saying ‘You’re clinically depressed with complimentary confusion and repulsion for humans of course’. I would like these lyrics to be spoken by the head warden towards the patient through a close up shot of his face.

- Cut to the face of the patient showing how they are unimpressed by this, then singing the lyrics ‘as if this mess was created by you, as if I gave you the chance to’. This scene will be filmed as though the patient and the doctor/head warden are having a conversation.

- There is a short instrumental part of the song after this, a possible cut to the musician playing guitar. Close up shot and long shot.

- Then the lyrics ‘it’s all a game and they’re inviting you to play’ come in and I would like the focus to be on the musician for this part whilst singing the lyrics.

- Then the lyrics are repeated and I am thinking of focusing back to the girl in the mental ward. Perhaps an over the shoulder shot from behind the girl looking towards the hospital wardens, whilst they are walking towards her.

- Then the break arrives with ‘reminisce this’ which is shortly before the song kicks in. I would firstly like to focus on the musician, perhaps a close up shot of the face whilst she is singing.

- As ‘reminisce this’ is repeated several times at this part, I would like to have some sharp cut beween the musician and the girl in the hospital ward. Close up shots of both singing ‘reminisce this’.

- Perhaps a few flashback shots could be used to covey a portrayal of the relationship before the break up, however at the moment I am uncertain about this.

- I am fond of the idea of shooting the parts of the girl in the psychiatric ward in black and white and the parts with myself as the musician in colour. This is because at the end of the song, the story unfolds and the audience sees that the girl in the psychiatric ward was in fact the musician in the past. This would enable a clearer picture for the audience.
