To start off the research in to horror trailers, we started watching some trailers. The trailer for the film 'Hitman' appealed to us as straight away you see a church, it uses quick cuts and increasing music tempo, which are features we plan to use in our trailer.
We noticed that also the first thing we see is the 20'th century fox logo which, for ours to look realistic, will also have to have. Not necessarily 20'th century fox, but maybe Paramount.
Or even Bad Robot.
For the start of our trailer we will see the main character, a girl, who will be singing/muttering a lullaby, similar to this one.
We feel this will set the scene up perfectly, creating a sense of unease, along with allowing the audience to realise this is the innocent character they are to sympathise with.
With many horror film trailers you hear a peice of music that builds up from slow, to quite upbeat music, to support the action you see on screen.
We have chosen to use an extract from this piece of music, starting from about 1 minute, as this gives the feeling of anxiety then for the music to kick in and build up in tempo and dynamics, creating increasing tension within the viewer.
